Balancing series of batteries

hi I have 4x 12v brand new leisure batteries connected to my pip 4048GE hypbrid inverter/charger. One of the 4 batteries has gone dead for some reason so I’m trickle charging it after disconnecting it from the bank. All 4 went flat when I ran out of juice and no solar input so I had to trickle charge each one to get the bank detected by the pip unit. I think the batteries are all in various states of charge!

My question is how can I ensure that when I return the battery to its bank with the other that all 4 batteries are balanced and in the same state of charge? Does my pip unit do something to balance them? Or do I need to do something special?
